A key consideration in determining coating performance is the way in which a coating responds to its environment. Some examples of areas where this consideration plays a central role include the development of coatings in biomedical applications, corrosion-resistant coatings, wear-resistant coatings, and light- or other stimuli-sensitive coatings.

This workshop will bring together academic and industrial participants to discuss fundamental and applied issues related to the topic of how coatings respond to their environment. Examples of products where environmental response plays a key role will be presented, and research challenges in this area will be discussed.
